Pharos lighthouse ancient alexandria

What is a Pharos?

A pharos (fah-ros) is the Greek word for a lighthouse, and is more commonly known in connection to the great pharos, or lighthouse, of Alexandria- one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. Built in approx. 280BC, it is said to have stood more than 110 meters tall, guiding all safely to and from one of the intellectual centers of the ancient world.
